More About

Tiger Lily

Let me introduce myself. My name is Lily Reyna, but most call me Tiger Lily. I have enjoyed competing in all kinds of sports throughout my life, but GOLF is my ultimate passion!

My other passion is teaching, so naturally teaching golf turned out to be my calling. I started golfing when my older brother challenged me to the sport in 1997. I had never golfed before, but had mastered many sports before, so I thought, how hard can it be? Famous last words!

Long story short, my brother beat me in that round of golf. Having played many years of softball before, I had issues with my swing and thought, the harder I hit, the further the ball must be going. As this book will tell you, I was terribly wrong.

Just as any competitive sister would have done, I dedicated night and day to mastering the sport of Golf. By the time I challenged my brother again, the tables were turned.

From there, I went on to achieve a zero handicap after 3 years of playing golf and competed in major USGA, US Women’s Open Qualifiers and Public Links Championships throughout the United States. I won 8 Club Championship titles, 6 of which were at Industry Hills Golf Club, 1 at Whittier Narrows Golf Club, and 1 at El Dorado Golf Club. I was also part of the Lexus TV Team Championships for a few years. Over these years and the many tournaments, I earned the nickname “Tiger Lily.”

In 2010, just as I was turning 50 years old, though I am forever 21 at heart, I decided to enter the PGA program. The PGA program (Professional Golders’ Association of America), as you will learn is an organization that was founded to establish and elevate the standards of the profession and to grow interest and participation in the game of golf. The PGA program is a certification meant to establish the holder as a professional in the sport of Golf, both with skill, but also understanding of all facets of the sport, including managing a golf course facility entirely.

With that goal in mind, I started as a PGA Apprentice by passing the PAT (Player’s Ability Test) on the first try, which is playing 36 holes consecutively on one day within 6 strokes of Par. I worked at Green River Golf Club as a 1st Assistant Golf Professional and at Industry Hills Golf Club. After 6 years of studying and testing, my efforts paid off and I was blessed to be elected on July 1, 2016, as a Class “A” Member in the Professional Golfers’ Association of America. In addition, I became a PGA Professional Golf Instructor, an achievement of which I am incredibly proud.

It is my personal belief that I have an advantage teaching, because I have played and excelled at many sports over the years. With that, I can relate to the movements an avid baseball player may be used to and provide analogies that help them with their golf swing.

I also spent 43 years as a volunteer Coach teaching kids in tennis, basketball, softball, baseball, soccer, and golf. I understand how these different sports can relate to the golf swing because they all require different strengths, flexibility, and mental thoughts.
